When did my babies grow up? Seriously? A few days ago we let The Boy carry The Dog's dish over to where she eats. He was so careful and slow. We told him to use both hands and the only time he let go was when he had to take a step down into the kitchen. His eyes darted back and forth between the bowl and the step. When The Dog hears the dog food container open, she gets up and does her "I'm going to eat soon" stretching routine. When The Boy hears the container he runs over and takes the bowl away from whoever is scooping the dog food. And today we were reading "The Hat" by Jan Brett. When I pointed to the picture where all her clothes disappear from the clothesline and asked The Boy where he thought the clothes were he said, "In the laundry room." Are other two-and-a-half year olds this incredible?
And The Girl. She no longer likes to be in a reclined position. She likes to sit up and see everything and everybody (unless she is on her playmat). She grabs toys, magazines, shirts... anything within reach (except our glasses - unlike her brother at that age) and she especially loves my "long" hair. I feel like The Boy missed out because my hair was so short the first part of his life. He didn't get any fun pulling in.
They both love The Dog. I feel like The Boy didn't notice The Dog until a few weeks ago. He'd occasionally pet her or play near her. Now, he incorporates The Dog into his play. He drives his cars on and around her. He brushes her with his small broom. At night he lays on the floor next to where she's sleeping by the fire like it is the most fascinating experience he's ever had. When The Dog walks into the room, The Girl goes wild. She laughs and reaches out for The Dog's ears. She's so happy and I can tell she just wants to love The Dog to pieces. She reminds me of that character from Tiny Toons and Animaniacs, Elmyra Duff. You'll get the idea if you watch the first two minutes of this clip.
What would I do without the Internet? Just watch my kids and not report about it. How boring?!
