The following may lead you to believe that we have a lot of time on our hands. We don't. When we do have time to spare, usually one of us has our hands full with The Girl and the other one is folding laundry or picking up The Boy's toys. So every night, part of our routine is to watch a Netflix. Gigi got us a membership when The Boy was born and along with every event of the 2006 Winter Olympics, we watched 50 some videos his first three months. We're not anywhere near that record for The Girl, but here are a few of our favorite television series rentals (We're obviously making our way through the British series).
Long Way Round - Ewan McGreggor (of Star Wars and Trainspotting fame) and his real-life best friend, Charley Boorman, ride their motorbikes around the world from Great Britain to New York by way of Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Alaska, Canada. Besides being extraordinarily hysterical, the video-diary style series is exciting, terrifying, and did I mention extraordinarily hysterical. We just ordered their second road trip video, Long Way Down, from Scotland to Africa.
Couping (BBC version) - You can't watch this one with your parents. It seems like the British version of Friends, but instead of a couch at a coffee shop, they sit on a couch at a bar. It is mainly about 6 friends and their sex lives. Our favorite character is Jeff. You can watch it on BBC America, but it is best to start from the beginning so you can appreciate Jeff.
Robin Hood (BBC version) - Is there anything better than a homeless hottie and his band of merry men? A Clue: No. Jonas Armstrong (grrrrowl). That's all I have to say. MH likes the humor and the action sequences. To each his own. I'm not bein' funny... Season 2 starts in April on BBC America, so get started now! (If you watch the show this entry will - hopefully - be funny.)
The Wire - Don't look at the HBO page or a recent Newsweek if you don't want Season 5 spoiled. I don't want to tell you much except that it is the greatest show on television. It is about cops, drug dealers and so much more. MH likes Season 2 because it's about the port system in Baltimore. I like Season 4 about the schools.
Rome - Another HBO series. Why couldn't they do more than 2 seasons? I mean the Roman Empire lasted more than 2 seasons! Each episode is like a movie. You definitely can't watch this one with your parents either - unless you hide their glasses.
And our old favorites: Veronica Mars and Alias.
